Laura Jacobsen has been drawing, painting, doodling, beading, sculpting and generally making a mess her whole life. She was very fortunate to have parents and teachers who indulged, and even encouraged, her creative whims.
She finished her formal school career at The Columbus College of Art and Design where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration. She has since been enrolled in the graduate program of How to Make a Living Sitting on Your Rear End Drawing. Her work has appeared in many, many textbooks, wonderful magazines like Cricket, Spider, Ladybug, Ask, Highlights for Children and High Five, and in several picture books including My Brother Loved Snowflakes, Animal Mischief, The Best Eid Ever and most recently A Party in Ramadan.
Laura was recently dragged kicking and screaming into the digital illustration age, discovered she loved it, and now uses her computer to create her illustrations when she is not posting on Facebook or answering e-mail. She also enjoys writing and currently keeps a blog and is pursuing publication of her own stories. Her two dogs, Hopper and Lucy, keep her company in her studio, clean up the crumbs and alert her to every outside noise, including those audible only to them.
Like most illustrators, Laura loves to talk on and on about crafting her work, where she finds ideas and inspiration, how she does the research for her illustrations and the best way to keep going after falling face first into the mud puddle of rejection. She is always happy to answer any question students might have including, but not limited to, “How old are you?” and “How much money do you make?”. Laura would be happy to share her talents and experience with your class or group. Contact Laura to inquire about programming and fees.
